Meeting Miss Charlie

“I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday in August in the Covid year of 2020. The cousins had come over for a visit. It was a super hot day and we decided to head to the park”

On the eve of Miss Charlie’s 6th birthday I’m reminiscing about meeting her for the first time. The whole pregnancy was full of stress and problems due to a multitude of problems. The biggest one being that she was small and not getting what she needed. The pregnancy was full of appointments every 3 days to check in and the worst part is I had a Puppp pregnancy rash which is a whole other thing in itself. I’ll write about that experience separately one day!

I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday in August in the Covid year of 2020. The cousins had come over for a visit. It was a super hot day and we decided to head to the park.

From where we used to live it was an uphill walk to the park and I remember being out of breath. On the way back Ayrton (3 at the time) ask to be carried and so I carried him for a bit without thinking too much about it.

At the park!

The next day I woke up to blood and so called the doctor. They asked me to come in for a check but they didn’t seem too concerned so along the way we stopped to grab a McDonald’s breakfast meal.

Once at the hospital they said that the placenta was starting to give out so they gave us the option of having Charlie that day or to go home and wait longer. They said that they could have everything ready for that day so that it could be calm and planned. But if I chose to go home then the next time it could be more of an emergency. So of course we chose the option to have her that day.

Well remember that we stopped for breakfast?

Because of that we had to wait 6 hours for all the food to digest. Over the course of the 6 hours I had to repeat what I had quite a few times to different nurses. Lol it almost felt like shaming having to repeatedly say a Bacon & Egg McMuffin, Hash Brown and Coffee.

The 6 hours finally passed and it was time. We were brought into the operating room and they were not kidding that it would be “calm”….music was playing in the room and the doctor even took a call mid way through the operation which was super bizarre.

After a long while they finally got Charlie out and they took her to the side of the room. There was no noise from her yet. We asked if she was ok multiple times but nobody answered us. After what felt like an eternity we finally heard a small cry. She was ok! They explained to us that after she was out that she became the priority which is why nobody answered us.

She was tiny…..less than 4.5 lbs but because she came after the 37 week mark she was already all developed so no time was needed in the NICU! Never knew that it was based off age and not size!

What a bizarre time it was in 2020. Because it was still in the thick of COVID. We were not allowed any visitors so it was basically just the 3 of us for a few days. We did have an old friend who was a nurse stop in for a visit but I think she might have gotten in trouble for it. What a strange time we lived in.

It was finally time to go home! And little Charlie has never turned back ever since. She continues to astonish us every day with her resilience, her will and her strength. She is exactly who she was at birth….such a strong one that fought her way into this world. We are so incredibly lucky that you chose us to be your family. Never stop fighting and being you. We love you more than words could ever say feisty little one!

Happy 6th Birthday sweetheart!
